Cobra Golf S2 Driver Video Review

Posted by Marc @ 2:04 pm

Hi guys, this is Trevor with GolfEtail.com, and today I am reviewing the Cobra S2 Driver.

The S2 is the first ever all-titanium driver to feature Adjustable Flight Technology (AFT), and so with the Cobra torque wrench you can set the club to open, neutral, or closed. So, you get three different flight patterns in one driver.

Once you have loosened the nut on the driver head with the provided Cobra torque wrench, you simply lift up the head a little bit and move it to neutral, open, or closed. Each setting is clearly indicated on the hosel of the club. Once you are in place, lock it down. You will hear the torque wrench click once you have tightened it enough, so you ensure a nice tight fit.

The S2 features “9-points” face technology, which means you get an increased hot zone on the face. In fact, almost the entire face is considered the hot zone. It also features milled dual rhombus technology, which is the internal bones of the face of the driver. This gives you consistency across the face of the driver, even when it is hit on the heel or toe.

You can see that the S2 has a nice classic head shape, and thanks to the all titanium body, it features a really nice sound at impact. Many of you guys will be pleased when you strike the ball with the pleasant sound that comes out of it.

Thanks for watching guys, we have them on sale at our website, GolfEtail.com. We are going to give you great discounts! Furthermore, if you go to our homepage and sign up for our Deal Team email list, you get EXCLUSIVE discounts emailed straight to your inbox. So check us out at GolfEtail.com!

Callaway Golf Fusion Wide Sole Iron Set Video Review

Hi guys, this is Trevor with GolfEtail.com, and these are the Callaway Fusion Wide Sole Irons, a Golf Digest “Hot List” item, designed to make golf fun and easy.

Callaway is known for their Fusion technology, and what this does is combines multiple materials to make a really forgiving and powerful club, and this is no different. These clubs feature a 6-4 Titanium body with a Tunite sole plate, which lowers and deepens the Center of Gravity, helping you get the ball in the air. They also have a TPU, or Thermoplastic Urethane “SenSert” as they call it, which fills the cavity, and dampens vibrations, providing a great feel at impact.

To be honest, most of us should be playing clubs like the Fusion Wide Soles. They are really forgiving, really easy to hit, they have these nice wide soles that don’t dig, and a nice offset that helps get the face of the club square to the ball at impact. We are costing ourselves strokes if we are playing clubs that are a little too advanced with us. These are perfect for the mid to high handicappers, which constitute most of the golfers out there.

Thanks for watching guys, these were the Fusion Wide Sole Irons, perfect for those mid to high handicappers who want a really forgiving iron set. If you jump on our website, GolfEtail.com, you can pick up a set of these for an incredible discount. We have the lowest prices on the web. Furthermore, if you click the link that is right about here on our homepage, you can sign up for our Deal Team email list. Is this the hardest course in the US ….

Think about going through your pre-game routine and standing on the first tee and facing a 8,325 yard monster in front of you.
No, 8,325 isn’t a typo – it’s reality. Even you long ball hitters have to be a bit intimidated about the 154 slope when playing from the tips. It might be a long day!

I am referring to The International, Pines Course in Bolton Massachusetts. One of the longest and the most difficult courses in the United States is nestled about 45 minutes outside of Boston; it is also very centrally located to Harford CT or Providence RI and about a 3 hour drive from NYC. Originally built by Geoff Cornish in 1954 and then re-designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr in 1972, this par 73 monster has many unique features. Chew on this for a few mintues:

  • The par 5 third hole is a mere 674 yards long and is not the longest hole on the course.
  • The fifth hole is arguably the most unique with a 715 yard, dogleg left, par 6 and features a 91 yard long green.
  • So you managed to get through both the 3rd and 5th holes, now is not the time to rest, for the par 3 seventh hole is 277 yards long. Thankfully this is the longest par 3 on the course, but the sixteenth hole at 270 yards is not far behind it.
  • As you approach the 11th tee box you look at the scorecard and it is only 590 yards long. But the scorecard does not tell you the 11th hole boasts 24 bunkers!
  • And just to finish properly, the par 5 18th finishing hole comes in at a whopping 656 yards.

Fall is a great time for golf in New England, so wish me well, I will need it!

A Few Random Thoughts about the PGA Tour

Posted by Marc @ 8:53 am

With Fall at our door steps and the Tour begins to wind down, here are a few random thoughts I have regarding the PGA Money Leader List….

Tiger Woods – Let me get this out of the way first …. YIKES! Played in 12 events and placed 65th in earnings at $1,178,515. In these 12 events Tiger scored 2 Top 10s’s and 7 Top 25’s. Let me put this into perspective a bit more … Arjun Atwal (who???) has played in 2 less events than Tiger, and is ahead of him in the money list at $1,268,490! Arjan made $76,676 on Tour in 2009. Come on Tiger!!!

Matt Kuchar – Leads the 2010 money list at $4,393,727 and played in 24 events with 1 win, 11 Top 10’s, and 18 Top 25’s. His previous best year was 2009, when he played in 24 events and made $2,489,192 with 1 win, 5 Top 5’s, and 10 Top 25’s.

Ernie Els – A big resurgence in 2010 with 2 wins and 12 Top 25’s with earnings of $4,311,361. It’s Ernie’s best year since 2004 when he won 3 times.

Jeff Overton – Nearly tripled his best year’s earnings at just over $3.3 million. Played in 28 events, making the cut in 17 and 5 Top 3 finishes; previously from 2006 – 2009 he only finished in the Top 3 once. Nice job!

John Daly – Daly’s best year since 2007; in 17 events he made $140,295 with 1 Top25 finish (he placed 24th at the Puerto Rico Open). John we love you, but all kidding aside, it’s time to get some help.

Come on Tiger … can’t you do better than this!

We have never jumped on the Tiger bashing bandwagon, and I understand that since last Thanksgiving Tiger’s entire life has been shattered, it is very personal for him, and obviously very tragic. However, he intentionally made himself a mega-role model and reaped the benefits of it for many years. Now that his personal life has crashed down around him, I am sure it’s painful to say the least.

But Tiger must do better than he did Tuesday’s news conference after his final round at the charity J.P. McManus Invitational Pro-Am in Adare, Ireland. Take a look …

Yikes! Any thoughts?

Want To Play Better Golf … Get a Rangefinder!

Many would argue the most significant improvement to golf equipment in the last 10 – 20 years is the new GPS or Laser Rangefinders.    These handheld instruments give you precise distances to greens,  bunkers, lay up locations, or to hazards all in effort to allow you make a better club choice before you hit your shot.  Simply said, they allow you to eliminate the guess work out of your game, and make better, more informed decisions.

Since the USGA approved them for play back in the mid 1990’s, these handy devices have become a staple in many golfers bag. And although still not allowed on the Professional Tours, you will find all caddies using them during the practice rounds to record important yardages and distances.

Rangefinders come in two flavors:  GPS Rangefinders and Laser Rangefinders.

  • GPS Rangefinders are very similar to what you probably have in your car.    They use overhead satellite technology and pre-mapped courses to pin point where you are on the course, and what lies ahead of you (or behind you).  Typically GPS Rangefinders are accurate to +3-5 yards and many (but not all) require an annual subscription.

The advantages of GPS rangefinders are: A complete overview of the hole can be displayed which is great when playing unfamiliar courses. Thousands of courses are pre-mapped. Many allow you to save information (digital scorecards, shot distances, …).

The disadvantages of GPS Rangefinders are: Most (not all) require an annual subscription. Accuracy of GPS Rangefinders is not quite as good as Laser Rangefinders. Distances must have been pre-mapped and course must be downloaded in advance. Battery life on some models is limited.

  • Laser Rangefinders use a laser technology to determine the distance to an object that you aim it at. You simply take the device aim at an object you interested in and the distance appears in the view finder. So why purchase a Laser: Well Laser Rangefinders are considered to be more accurate (typically + 1 yard).

The advantages of Laser Rangefinders include: Accurate to within 1 yard. No pre-mapping is required … simply point and shoot. Excellent battery life. Can be used for boating, archery, …

The disadvantages of Laser Rangefinders include: Must have something to shoot to get a distance (not always great for layup shots). Sometimes difficult to get depth of greens. Must have line of sight to object of interest … can’t shoot through trees or around dog-legs. No hole overview display.

So there you have it. We have a good selection at GolfEtail.com all at discount prices, so be good to yourself and think about one.

Just In … Cobra sold to Puma!

Posted by Marc @ 11:00 pm

Acushnet announced today that they have reached a sale agreement with Puma for Cobra. The sale includes all inventory, intellectual properties, Cobra brand, and endorsement contracts; it is pending regulatory approvals.

In case you haven’t heard, Puma is making a full court press to get into the golf market in the US. It is launching a golf shoe and golf clothing line here in the US, and so it is no surprise that they are making a big splash in the golf equipment ‘hard goods’. It would seem with Puma acquiring Cobra would be a huge hit for the Cobra brand. It will no longer be the step-child, but rather may well be the flagship.

Certainly Cobra has produced some high quality golf clubs in recent years, often garnering rave reviews in some of the more well known publications (Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golf World,…).   Cobra also has some big PGA Tour names playing their golf clubs, including:  Camilo Villegas, Ian Poulter and J.B. Holmes.    And not bad timing I might say, with Camilo coming up big in last week’s Honda event!

Time will tell, but I am excited about this. What do you think?
