If you’re anything like The DealTeam, you’re preparing to hibernate.

OK, so not really, but this brisk weather makes us want to curl up on the couch with a classic golf game on the tube.

But until we reach the weekend, we’ve got to work.

We bet you do, too. That’s why we’re bringing you this compilation of hilarious golf bloopers to help you make it over Hump Day.

Trust us when we say … this will make you smile!

Girl, 13, Sinks Hole-in-One at LPGA Event

ecct0926lpga

Close, but no car.

Thirteen-year-old Casie Cathrea – a high school freshman from Livermore, Calif. – made a hole-in-one in the first round of an LPGA tournament last Thursday.

The 165-yard shot came on the 12th hole, which, according to Fox Sports, was the hole the tournament fitted with a prize car for those who sunk a hole-in-one. Unfortunately for Cathrea, she cannot accept the car without losing her amateur status.

What luck – the DealTeam is truly devastated!

But we’re comforted by the prospect of her bright future!

Cathrea, who is the second-youngest player to ever qualify for an LPGA Tour event, earned her spot in the CVS Pharmacy LPGA Challenge by finishing second in a qualifier early last week. She ended the tournament with a 2-over-par 74.

The hole-in-one wasn’t a fluke, either. The emerging lady golfer said this was her third.

Psst… Cathrea, we’re sorry you couldn’t ride away with victory, but you’ve got bigger fish to fry. Plus, you’re not old enough to get behind the wheel, anyway. In time, my dear, in time.

Keep up the good work and you’ll have plenty of time to pick out the car of your dreams.

LPGA Players Donate Their Hair to a Good Cause

NM09-Pantene-Beautiful-Lengths-FEATURE-500x375

Don’t tell the GolfEtail head honchos, but The DealTeam is quietly celebrating some of the lovely LPGA ladies. Hey, we all gotta cut loose sometime, right?

And talk about cutting loose… in just a few hours, a ponytail cutting event will take place on the clubhouse patio of the Pinnacle Country Club. That’s right – a ponytail cutting event, which will help create free, high-quality wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

A few LPGA Tour players, including Paige Mackenzie, Carri Wood, Lisa Strom, Chella Choi, Vicky Hurst, Stacy Lewis and Heather Daly-Donofrio, are expected to participate in the event, dubbed Pantene Beautiful Lengths, to celebrate women’s health and the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons. In addition, many other LPGA Tour players are expected to stop by the event, either as honorary cutters, or to simply enjoy the festivities.

Let’s hear it for the girls!

I’d be right there with ya, ladies … if only my hair weren’t painted on.

Drake U. Senior Falls Short at U.S. Women’s Amateur

PTHTEIIVYGTEZGJ.20090419195812

Maybe the third time will be a charm for Olivia Lansing, a senior at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, who failed to advanced to today’s match play at the 109th U.S. Women’s Amateur golf championship.

During her first appeareance at the championship last year, Lansing, 21, posted a two-round score of 161 during stroke-play qualifying, missing the chance to advance into the match-play round. The Lady Bulldog came closer yesterday, with a 36-hole score of 156, but it wasn’t enough to make the cut, which came at 151.

Lansing looked good in the second round, shooting a 5-over-par 76, including four birdies (on the first, sixth, 15th and 16th holes), cutting four strokes off Monday’s opening-round score of 80. But it wasn’t enough, as she tied for 102nd place, five points shy of advancement.

Better luck next time, O!

Justin Timberlake to Open Golf Course in Tennessee

justin_timberlake_golf

Any of my fellow lady golfers interested in a roadtrip to the great state of Tennessee? It seems the man who brought “sexy back” is bringing golf back too.

Here’s the story:

In late 2007, Justin Timberlake bought the former Big Creek Golf Course to save it from commercial development. An avid golfer and entrepreneur, Timberlake then invested in the course’s $16 million eco-friendly renovation. Next week (July 25, to be exact), the newly renamed Mirimichi golf course will open – and it’s safe to assume that its owner, who calls Tennessee home, will be there to kick things off.

The DealTeam wonders what other big names will be there to help Timberlake out? Any guesses?

Daddy Caddie: Mike Van Sickle makes his PGA debut with Pops by his side

mike-gary-van-sickle_299x403

I might be a fierce contender on the links, but I still have a soft side. Which is probably why this story from golf writer Gary Van Sickle made my heart melt!

Gary’s son Mike will make his PGA Tour debut, playing as an amateur in the John Deere Classic (through July 12), and Gary will be right there beside him – as his caddie.

This isn’t the first time Gary’s served as Mike’s looper – as he details in his story on Golf.com – but it is his first time assisting his son in the big leagues. What a milestone! Pops must be so proud.

I have a feeling my fellow DealTeam member Brassie Spooner is envious…

I just love to hear stories like this!

The Olivet College women’s golf team tied for 11th place at the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championships this week at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., according to Michigan’s BattleCreekEnquirer.com.

Those ladies must have been eating their Wheaties!

Maybe the guys should join them for breakfast since the Olivet College men’s golf team sits in tie for 28th place after the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship.

Gotta do better than that, boys!

The DealTeam congratulates the Olivet Lady Comets – seniors Lindsay Pipkin and Kate Misko, junior Megan Rimmel, sophomore Amber Conrad, and freshman Lauren Campbell – on a championship well played. Time to celebrate!

Ochoa Gaining Steam

ping-lorena-ochoa

Let’s hear it for the ladies!

Defending champ Lorena Ochoa won the Corona Championship with score of 25 strokes under par, holding off Norway’s Suzann Pettersen by a stroke in a dramatic final round. 27-year-old Ochoa, who has won the Morelia, Mexico-based event three times since 2006, had back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to break a tie with Pettersen.

Next up for Ochoa is the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill Resort, from May 7 to 10.

Good vibes go out to Ochoa and all her female opponents – may the best lady golfer win!

56 PGA Golf Shows Later…

Greetings ladies and gentlemen!

Last week was a very exciting time for us and the golf industry. More than 41,000 industry professionals from the US and 74 countries abroad attended the 56th PGA Merchandise Show last week from Jan. 29th – 31st. Participants were there to discover cutting-edge new products, absorb the latest trends, conduct golfer-to-golfer business and hone strategies for a tough economy in 2009. Not to mention, I’m sure they would all like to drive like Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam.

Needless to say, we at Golf Etail were there en force to happily share and interact with the innovative new 2009 world of golf! Check out the images below of one of our featured brands, Callaway, showcasing some dynamic new products at their PGA Show booth.
