Cack-Handed Professional Golfer

This one might make all of you golfers with odd grips take heart. Check out this young man from Scotland, a professional golfer, who also just happens to use a right-over-left grip on his club (even though he swings like a righty). He won the 2007 Scottish Amateur Championship, so he must be doing something right.

And whether you grip it like Mr. Gallagher here, or the traditional way like me, a new set of clubs can help you hit them straighter and longer, so check out our deals on golf iron sets, including an awesome deal on the TaylorMade R7 Iron Set.

Keep hitting those fairways!

Who Are the Greatest Golfers of All Time?

GreatestGolfers

Think you know?

Tiger, Jack, Seve and Annika all made the cut. But who else did Golf magazine choose to round out its list of the “20 Greatest Golfers of All Time”? Take a look. And when you’re done, don’t forget to choose your all-time fave – or debate the list if you think Golf has overlooked a player worthy of the top 20 title. Players like me, Bogey Niblick – DealTeam dynamo and golf expert extraordinaire. But let’s keep that between us, shall we?

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Golf has also compiled a list of the 50 greatest courses, complete with interactive map; its 5 best video tips; and a special section devoted to the man, the legend, Arnold Palmer.

So much great golf content, the DealTeam barely knew where to begin!

University of Washington Junior Wins Pac-10 Title

1268375

Some good news from the college golf circuit: Darren Wallace, a junior at the University of Washington, walked away with the Pac-10 title yesterday with an 11-under 277.

A perfect putt on the 9th hole gave him an eagle and a 9-shot lead that, despite double bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes, kept him 4 shots ahead of Huskies teammate Nick Taylor.

Washington, who before the Pac-10 championships at Seattle Golf Club had never won a tournament with the team, said, “I was definitely excited to get on the course today. I was definitely feeling a little bit nervous, and it took me a little while to get to sleep last night. But it was more excitement than anything. It was a pretty comfortable lead, and to be able to come out of the gates and extend that lead was key.”

As tournament champion, Washington, who’s ranked No. 5 in the nation, gets automatic berth in the NCAA regionals,  which will take place from May 14 to 16.

The DealTeam is rootin’ for ya, Darren. Go get ‘em, kiddo!

Do You Know Moe?

We came across this great video memorial on golf legend Moe Norman, who, in our opinion, was completely underrated. Norman played briefly in the PGA Tour – in 1959 – but due to his reclusive personality he returned to his native Canada to play out the rest of his legendary career – and it was there that he became the greatest ball striker the world has never known. We could go on for hours about the late, great Moe Norman, but the video above tells his story better than we can. Have a look.

The 3 Best New Golf Products That Make You Say – Why Didn’t I Think of That?

As the lovely Heather mentioned in her post below, we at Golf Etail attended the 2009 PGA Golf Merchandise Show last week. At the event, promotional booths crackled with new technology and golf industry professionals buzzed back-and-forth making sure they took in all of the electrifying new products.

With the introduction of so much new technology, my sparsely populated hairs were soon standing on end with excitement. At the show, new products are rated and measured by the PGA Merchandisers of the Year to see which ones are considered the best. This year, I was very impressed to see these 3 fascinating products earn top honors…

1. Amphibian Towel (Frogger Company)

Black and Red Amphibian Towels

Black and Red Amphibian Towels

The amphibian towel was created to meet the needs of golfers whom wish to keep their clubs clean on the course. The towel is designed so the interior retains water and keeps wet, while the exterior of the towel remains dry – all at the same time. It acts like a two-in-one cleaning and drying system to keep you competitive on the course. As a gadget man, I think everything should be at least a two-in one.

In Golf, the Putt is an Indispensable Skill. The Putter is an Indispensable Tool.

Harvey Morris Penick was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002 under the lifetime achievement category for being one of the greatest golf teachers of all time. According to Penick, “Nothing is more important psychologically than knocking putts into the hole. Sinking putts makes your confidence soar and it devastates your opponent.” (Penick, H. (1997). The Wisdom of Harvey Penick. New York: Simon & Schuster.)

Let’s face it, putting is the scoring game and the right equipment can help you hear that spine-tingling sound when the ball rattles down the inner rim of the hole.

To illustrate, let’s take a look at the Carbite Golf ZG Offset Hosel Mallet Putter. As the name implies, this putter is packed with technology to help you put more putts in the hole and watch your golfing buddies cringe.

But what does each part of the name really mean?

•    Carbite Golf ZG – Brand name of putter.

•    Mallet – Putter shaped like a mallet.

•    Hosel – the part of the clubhead into which the shaft is fitted and secured.

•    Offset – the distance from the frontmost part of the hosel to the frontmost part of the clubhead. This helps get the ball rolling smoothly and on line. If you read the green right you know where the ball will end up.

•    Offset Hosel – The purpose of the offset hosel is to help golfers line up with their eyes over the ball with a good line of sight. This type of club also helps keep the hands slightly ahead of the ball when the putt is struck, which is a putting fundamental.

With a full-sized, weighted and proper balanced club for the same price as a dinner at Applebee’s, you may want to add your name to the Carbite Golf ZG Offset Hosel Mallet Putter’s list of satisfied golfers.
