Cack-Handed Professional Golfer

Posted by Bogey Niblick @ 11:06 am

This one might make all of you golfers with odd grips take heart. Check out this young man from Scotland, a professional golfer, who also just happens to use a right-over-left grip on his club (even though he swings like a righty). He won the 2007 Scottish Amateur Championship, so he must be doing something right.

And whether you grip it like Mr. Gallagher here, or the traditional way like me, a new set of clubs can help you hit them straighter and longer, so check out our deals on golf iron sets, including an awesome deal on the TaylorMade R7 Iron Set.

Keep hitting those fairways!

Golf on the Shortlist for an Olympic Return

riologoolimpiadi2016

Golf officials hope to shed the sport’s elitist image as it vies for an Olympic return.

Golf, along with rugby, are on the International Olympic Committee’s shortlist to make a return to the 2016 Games, to be held in Rio de Janeiro. The committee is expected to make its decision this Friday.

A few stars were on hand in Copenhagen, Denmark, to support the bid, including Michelle Wie, who said that taking part in the Olympics would be “the highest achievement for every golfer.” If the bid succeeds, it will mark the first time since the 1904 Games that golf has appeared.

According to this article from Reuters, the IOC is eager to refresh its Games program to attract younger audiences. The sports will be back at the 2016 Olympics should they win a simple majority of votes on Friday.

The DealTeam is booking tickets to Rio as we write this. The early bird gets the worm!

Girl, 13, Sinks Hole-in-One at LPGA Event

ecct0926lpga

Close, but no car.

Thirteen-year-old Casie Cathrea – a high school freshman from Livermore, Calif. – made a hole-in-one in the first round of an LPGA tournament last Thursday.

The 165-yard shot came on the 12th hole, which, according to Fox Sports, was the hole the tournament fitted with a prize car for those who sunk a hole-in-one. Unfortunately for Cathrea, she cannot accept the car without losing her amateur status.

What luck – the DealTeam is truly devastated!

But we’re comforted by the prospect of her bright future!

Cathrea, who is the second-youngest player to ever qualify for an LPGA Tour event, earned her spot in the CVS Pharmacy LPGA Challenge by finishing second in a qualifier early last week. She ended the tournament with a 2-over-par 74.

The hole-in-one wasn’t a fluke, either. The emerging lady golfer said this was her third.

Psst… Cathrea, we’re sorry you couldn’t ride away with victory, but you’ve got bigger fish to fry. Plus, you’re not old enough to get behind the wheel, anyway. In time, my dear, in time.

Keep up the good work and you’ll have plenty of time to pick out the car of your dreams.

Outsmartin

Think you know your golf facts?

Golfweek has a new video trivia challenge on its Web site called Outsmartin’.

Golf trivia guru Sean Martin, AKA Smartin’, takes on three contestants who vie for prizes like the hybrid golf clubs featured in episode 1.

The questions aren’t incredibly tough – if you consider yourself a golf buff – but it’s easy to make an honest mistake. You’ll see what we mean when you watch this.

You can even be a contestant on the show if you live in the Orlando area. Information to be considered is at the end of the video.

If you make it on, let us know. We’ll be so proud!

When Golf Met Football…

oregon-eugene

It’s football season, all right. We can tell because that’s all our Facebook friends are talking about!

But what about golf? The DealTeam’s favorite pastime is getting the shaft as fall takes hold of sports fans’ attention spans.

Never fear! Golf.com has come up with a way to marry the best of both worlds with its new weekly series that profiles a college football town with tips on where to play golf, eat and drink while you’re there.

This week’s spotlight is on Eugene, Ore., where the Oregon Ducks will face off against the Utah Utes, undefeated champions of the 2009 Allstate Sugar Bowl.

If you just happen to be in the area, here’s what Golf.com suggests you do.

If you’re not in the area, no worries. They’ll profile a different game location each week of the season.

LPGA Players Donate Their Hair to a Good Cause

NM09-Pantene-Beautiful-Lengths-FEATURE-500x375

Don’t tell the GolfEtail head honchos, but The DealTeam is quietly celebrating some of the lovely LPGA ladies. Hey, we all gotta cut loose sometime, right?

And talk about cutting loose… in just a few hours, a ponytail cutting event will take place on the clubhouse patio of the Pinnacle Country Club. That’s right – a ponytail cutting event, which will help create free, high-quality wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

A few LPGA Tour players, including Paige Mackenzie, Carri Wood, Lisa Strom, Chella Choi, Vicky Hurst, Stacy Lewis and Heather Daly-Donofrio, are expected to participate in the event, dubbed Pantene Beautiful Lengths, to celebrate women’s health and the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons. In addition, many other LPGA Tour players are expected to stop by the event, either as honorary cutters, or to simply enjoy the festivities.

Let’s hear it for the girls!

I’d be right there with ya, ladies … if only my hair weren’t painted on.

Watch PGA Champ Y.E. Yang Chip His Way Closer to Victory

Posted by Ace Ironwood @ 4:14 pm

A few weeks ago we delivered you the goods on Y.E. Yang’s PGA Championship victory over Tiger Woods.

(Woods wasn’t happy. But who can blame him? Nobody likes to lose. Especially on national television.)

Now, ever better goods than before – the shot that gave Yang the come-from-behind lead over Woods.

Talk about exciting – The DealTeam can’t stop watching this clip! It’s the embodiment of professional sports.

As they say, you win some, you lose some. Yang definitely deserved that one!
