Hi, this is Trevor with GolfEtail.com, and this is the Callaway FT-5 Tour Driver. The FT-5 Tour Driver is very similar to the regular FT-5 Driver, but there are a few differences that are important to note.

The first is that the Tour version comes in half lofts. Rather than 10*, 11*, 12*, it comes in 8.5*, 9.5* 10.5* etc. Another difference is that it features the Callaway Chevron logo on the face of the club, rather than on the on the crown, like the regular edition.

The FT-5 Tour also has a slightly more open face, 0.5* more open. So it suits those better players who tend to draw the ball, this will help to compensate for that and hit it long and straight.

Aside from those few differences between the FT-5 Tour and the regular FT-5, you get the same great technology in the drivers, including Callaway’s Fusion technology, which fuses the super hot Titanium face of the club to the composite body. It is also an oversized 460cc head, so you get a lot of mass and power behind the ball, which helps you hit it long and straight down the fairway.

And, as with the FT-5, the FT-5 Tour comes in a variety of weighting setups, which lead to a draw, fade, or neutral setting. On the sloe of the club it indicates what the weighting is. This one in particular is a neutral, so the weighting is more in the center of the head. Depending on your swing, you can get a club that suits your game and will help you hit it straight.

The FT-5 was a one time winner of Golf Digest’s “Editor’s Choice” Award, so you know this thing works, and it features Callaway’s fusion technology, fusing a Titanium face with a composite head and body, which gives you a powerful and lightweight driver.

A couple of technologies that this features is Callaway’s Variable Face Thickness (VFT) Titanium face, which is very ‘hot’ and helps the ball spring off the club, as well as the oversized 460cc clubhead. This will give you a lot of power and mass behind your drives.

One of the great parts about this driver is that it comes in various different weighting configurations, setting up for a draw, neutral, or fade bias. So, for example, if you have a slice you could possibly correct it by picking up a draw driver.

Hi, this is Trevor with GolfEtail.com, and today we are going to be reviewing the Callaway X-20 NG Iron Set. The X-20 NG Irons feature the same clubhead design that won the 2007 Golf Digest “Editor’s Choice” Award for a game improvement iron, but it has a few improvements that we are going to talk about now…

The X-20 NG’s feature Callaway’s new V-Groove design, which DOES conform to the USGA’s groove standards for 2010. You can see that this little “v” denotes the new grooves, here on the hosel of the club.

Another difference that you will notice is the X-20 NG’s don’t have a bore through shaft, they just have a standard blind bore, which is a little different than the X-20’s of previous years.

And as with most Callaway clubs, you can see that they look very forgiving. They have notch weighting that moves weight to the perimeter, increasing your MOI, making it a more forgiving club. It also has a little bit of a wider sole than other irons, so it is going to be a little more forgiving out of the turf, and is a great club for the all around player.

Many would argue the most significant improvement to golf equipment in the last 10 – 20 years is the new GPS or Laser Rangefinders.    These handheld instruments give you precise distances to greens,  bunkers, lay up locations, or to hazards all in effort to allow you make a better club choice before you hit your shot.  Simply said, they allow you to eliminate the guess work out of your game, and make better, more informed decisions.

Since the USGA approved them for play back in the mid 1990’s, these handy devices have become a staple in many golfers bag. And although still not allowed on the Professional Tours, you will find all caddies using them during the practice rounds to record important yardages and distances.

Rangefinders come in two flavors:  GPS Rangefinders and Laser Rangefinders.

• GPS Rangefinders are very similar to what you probably have in your car.    They use overhead satellite technology and pre-mapped courses to pin point where you are on the course, and what lies ahead of you (or behind you).  Typically GPS Rangefinders are accurate to +3-5 yards and many (but not all) require an annual subscription.

  The advantages of GPS rangefinders are: A complete overview of the hole can be displayed which is great when playing unfamiliar courses. Thousands of courses are pre-mapped. Many allow you to save information (digital scorecards, shot distances, …).

  The disadvantages of GPS Rangefinders are: Most (not all) require an annual subscription. Accuracy of GPS Rangefinders is not quite as good as Laser Rangefinders. Distances must have been pre-mapped and course must be downloaded in advance. Battery life on some models is limited.

• Laser Rangefinders use a laser technology to determine the distance to an object that you aim it at. You simply take the device aim at an object you interested in and the distance appears in the view finder. So why purchase a Laser: Well Laser Rangefinders are considered to be more accurate (typically + 1 yard).

  The advantages of Laser Rangefinders include: Accurate to within 1 yard. No pre-mapping is required … simply point and shoot. Excellent battery life. Can be used for boating, archery, …

  The disadvantages of Laser Rangefinders include: Must have something to shoot to get a distance (not always great for layup shots). Sometimes difficult to get depth of greens. Must have line of sight to object of interest … can’t shoot through trees or around dog-legs. No hole overview display.

No GPS system is easier or more intuitive. As the name suggests, it is there to keep you on par all the time. However, if they keep working as well as they do, they will have to change the name to UnderPar!

“A little Karma goes a long way” is what it says on the packaging of the Nike Karma 2-Ball sleeves. Nike designed these balls to give you a little extra something when you need it most.

Here at GolfEtail we stay away from the gossip about Tiger as much as we can. We don’t get caught up in his personal life because it is just that: personal. We do, however, care about his return to golf. We all love watching him play, especially on Sunday in Red.

When will he return? Will it be at the Arnold Palmer? Or not until the Masters? Will he wear the green jacket again?

We don’t know the answers to these questions. Only Tiger does. All we can say is that we hope he returns to competitive play soon. Our weekends have not been the same without him…
